
Full-professor at the Department of Sociology of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Master Degree in Economics and in Political Science, and Doctorate in Sociology at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in 1987. Visiting researcher at the Institute for Family and Population Policy of the University of Bielefeld (Germany) (1989-1991) and fellow at the Hanse Institute for Advanced Science at Delmenhorst (Germany) (1999-2000). President of the European Society on Family Relations (2016-2018). Member (since 2011) and co-coordinator (2021-2026) of the International Network on Leave Policies and Research and member of the Scientific Committee of the Research Network 13 of the European Sociological Association.
His research focuses on Family Sociology, Gender Violence, geographical Mobility and Social Policy. He has implemented many research projects funded by public and private institutions at regional, national and European level. The current research project, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, focuses on Balancing Working and Family Lives of Spanish Families with small children (PID2021-123736NB-I00). He is also an active member of the Cost Action 21150 Parental Leave Policies and Social Sustainability (2022-2026) (https://sustainable-leave-policies.eu/).
